It's got somethin'!

Hi! I'm Sarah. Pleased to meet you! I like many things, among them being Six Feet Under, riot grrrl, and PJ Harvey. I might like you too, so why don't you drop me a line?

In the past few years, I feel like it's particularly evident that one couture line is particularly dominating the trends: Lover.

And it’s EXACTLY TWO YEARS EARLY. Every time.

The first time I really noticed it was after 2006’s fall collection “About a Girl”, an absolutely gorgeous tribute to Kurt Cobain and ’90s grunge in general (because I could swear that one of those dresses was pretty much a copy of a dress Angela Chase wears in My So-Called Life). Two years ago, the plaid and lace leggings present in that line became HUGE. EVERYWHERE. Still is.

In 2007 I believe, fall-ish, a collection called “Electric Ladyland” was dedicated to the unspeakably cool “groupies” (most of them were, at least) of the era who would go on to take strong roles in rock ‘n’ roll, particularly Marianne Faithfull and Patti Smith. I just got an email from Topshop saying that this is what’s cool now (and they’ve actually been saying that for a year or so).

EXACTLY TWO YEARS.

Seriously, I do NOT know how they do it, and I won’t know what’s to come as I haven’t followed Lover since “Electric Ladyland”, but it was ASTOUNDING to see them predict and dictate the future of fashion, as they still are and I’m sure will continue to.
